Step Right Up & Place Your Bets!

*Update 8/13/09: So...your guesses are quite, hummm, big! We'll see in a few days! For those who asked, I wanted to let y'all know that I had my last prenatal appointment today. All went well at the appointment although I cried just about the entire way there (good, moving Third Day & Chris Tomlin songs & the reality that my next trip downtown will be to have a baby got to me). I am all set for Tuesday morning and learned that I can even wear makeup this go-round! (With Annabelle, I had to do all these special showers with some terrible smelling hospital cleanser to reduce the risk of any infection and couldn't put anything on my body afterwards & with Wyatt, well, he was only 26 hours late and the makeup had long worn off by then!) Oh, I also got the okay for Scott to video...he thinks that it will go something like this...shot of me, shot of Luke and straight shot to the ceiling but I totally think he can do it! It is so special having Annabelle's birth on video (thank you MUSC) that I really would love to have Luke's also.
I'm looking forward to a relaxing pedicure tomorrow and some serious cleaning over the weekend!
Please remember our family in your prayers...as I think about all the special family pictures that will be taken in 5 days, I am constantly thinking about the little girl with deep blue eyes who isn't going to be in the picture with us. I know this is God's Plan and I am finding peace in it day by day but it's still so hard. Thank you, friends.
Do you have a knack for knowing how big a baby will be? Take a gander & we'll see if you're right in exactly 1 week!
But, first...a few facts to help you make an educated guess:
~Wyatt was born at 37 1/2 weeks and weighed in at a whopping 9 pounds 2 ounces.
~Annabelle was born at 39 weeks and weighed a very dainty, girly weight of 7 pounds 4 ounces.
(She also had a two vessel cord which contributes to smaller babies...fyi.)
~Luke has already measured in the 87th percentile at 33 weeks.
~The ultrasound at that same appointment figured him at over 5 pounds already.
~I think the rule of thumb is that they gain 1/2 a pound or so a week at the end. (You'd think I'd have a better clue with my third but I am just so grateful to be given this child that I don't even like complaining about my back pain & siatic nerve issues- which may have something to do with his size, too?)
~I am scheduled for delivery next Tuesday morning at 7:30am...Luke will be 39 weeks.
~I am also carrying enough fluid to fill a 2 acre pond. So, that could mean that there's more fluid in there and less baby or that baby is making me retain more fluid elsewhere because he's a chunky monkey. You figure this one out!
~My lovely hubby thinks it's fun to look at my belly and in a slow, deep, bass voice say "10 Pounder". Trust me, he gets the evil eye everytime and has, thankfully, stopped doing that recently. The only safe bet that I can make is that if he still did that he'd be building a dog house to live in! :)
~Not that I get an choice in any of this, but I am hoping for somewhere around 8 pounds. I've got Luke the sweetest little sleeper that looks so little now & I'd like for him to wear it at least once. (You know, important stuff!)
The guessing game is on!

Wow, I can't believe it's so soon!

I guess Luke will be 8 lbs, 7 oz.

My boys were 8-11 and 8-6 (born at 40 weeks, 5 days and 39 weeks, respectively) and they each still were too small for 0-3 month clothes. So we did get quite a bit of use out of some of the newborn clothes that we had.

Oh I can't wait!!!

My guess is going to be 8.11.

And trust me, I know just how you feel about those 9 pounders. Avery was 9.5 and I was afraid Lauren would run close to that - she came out 8.1 - HUGE difference!!!
I am excited for you all!!!!

I can't wait to see pictures of your gorgeous Luke! OK...here's my guess:
8 lbs. 15 oz.
You are going to see that baby and fall instantly in love with him. He is not Annabelle, but he is Luke (and I know a pretty special angel Luke playing with his big sister up in heaven) and he will make your world even better! Speaking from experience, I know that Luke will bring you more joy than you ever imagined. There will still be those "missing Annabelle" days, but there will also be "I can't believe that God has blessed me with Luke" days. Wyatt is going to feel the healing, too, so just sit back and watch his joy with his new little brother! If he is anything like Emily and Matthew, he will not ever want to leave Luke's side. I look forward to our families meeting up and our baby boys getting to play just as our angels are playing! God bless you and take care of yourself these next few days...you'll need it with a newborn at home (my 6 month old is still waking up to nurse a few times each night!). Take care, my friend!
Love,
Bernie

Ok, my first was 9 lbs. 2 oz. just like Mr. Wyatt. Ann was 8 lbs., just a wee bit bigger than Princess Annabelle, and my third was 8 lbs. l4 oz. So that is my guess

Well I am late to the guessing party...but since Luke is technically going to be "early", I am going to guess 8 and a half pounds...well, at least SOMEONE is putting you first, Rebecca!!! That is a nice sized baby without being, what did Scott say...HUGE???? Men...they should have to do this...

I just want you to know I am thinking about you every day and can hardly wait to see those first pictures...

With love and prayers, Elaine

Oh how we are praying for your precious family and the introduction on Tuesday of this little one to your family. May your heart find God's peace as only he can do.
Well, Laura's Tanner was 7'13 and Lindsay Bear was 7'5 and then came Case at a whoping 10'2. :) Soo maybe that little sleeper should be at the hospital. How fun. We are looking forward to Tuesday.
We found out that our Case's name means "Bringer of peace" and the verse on the day of his birth was John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. Luke will be your "bringer of peace."
Love and prayers to all,
Jan Welte
